2015: The hurdles before Isiaka and Ogun PDP

Ogun State govnor
After a lot of horse trading, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) endorsed Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, as the governorship candidate for the Ogun State chapter of the party after about three weeks of his election at the primary.
The fact that the national leadership of the party did not allow the result of the primary to be announced for a couple of weeks proved that there was a lot of issues that needed to be addressed, to avoid re-occurrence of their 2011 experience.

2015: Jonathan’ll come back –Sgt Awuse

Goodluck-Jonathan-007In Rivers State, the politics of zoning and dichotomy is currently causing uproar within the state’s PDP. The issue is still causing much controversy even after the party’s governorship primary. Observers feel the scenario might bring sharp divide into the party towards next year’s general elections.

Chief Sergeant Chidi Awuse, a PDP chieftain, unarguably, is an encyclopedia of Rivers politics. He has been actively involved in the state’s politics right from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and National Republican Convention (NRC) era when the military regime of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida introduced diarchy. Since then, there was hardly any dispensation Awuse did not contest for the governorship position on diverse political platforms. In his radical approach to become governor of the state right from the time of old Rivers, Awuse might have arguably pioneered the controversial upland and riverine dichotomy. So, the issue of Rivers dichotomy is a stuff he knows well.

2014: Year blood rained in Abuja

bloodThe year ending today was dotted with ugly spots for the capital city.

The whistle is blowing for the exit of 2014. Just like yesterday, it started with high hopes, expectations, fears and anxiety. And fast enough, the 365 days have crawled slowly to the last point.

A retrospect on the year is what the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would hardly recall in joy. It was a year the nation’s capital bled profusely and would always remember with pains.

Abuja Metro’s flashback on the journey of the year brings back the bitter reality of what a year should really not be next time. It has been an interesting year for the wrong reasons. While major political events dominated the landscape during the period under review, insecurity too assumed a worrisome dimension. Beyond three major bomb blasts that rocked strategic places in the territory, there were other under-reported criminal activities in the territory.

Enugu FRSC begins campaign on use of bicycles to curb road accidents

Road safetyAs the year is gradually rolling to an end, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Enugu State Command, has advocated the use of bicycles as a means of transport to help reduce accidents on the roads.

The commission which made this appeal in its spread of the ‘gospel of ember months’ to the people of Enugu, also urged them to drive with utmost caution, ‘not just to be alive but to save life’.
