Fani-Kayode demands N5billion damages, apology from Lai Mohammed over comments on mental health

Femi Fani-Kayode Appears in Court in Lagos
The Director of Media and Publicity of Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has issued a letter demanding an apology and N5billion damages from the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed, for questioning his “mental state”.
Mr. Femi-Kayode’s letter dated March 3, through Whyte Prekunomaa of Ahmed Raji and Co, quoted Mr. Mohammed as saying, “We are seriously concerned that Mr. Fani-Kayode may have unhinged, perhaps as a result of a relapse into an unhealthy lifestyle of substance abuse.

“Our concern stems from the series of incoherent statements, outlandish claims and inconsistent behaviours exhibited by Mr. Fani-Kayode in recent times, which call into question his state of mental health.”
Mr. Mohammed was reacting to an allegation ascribed to Mr. Fani-Kayode that the All Progressives Congress Vice-Presidential candidate, Yemi Osinbajo, swore an oath to transfer his office to Bola Tinubu if the party wins the presidential election.
In his letter, addressed to Mr. Mohammed, Mr. Fani-Kayode denied he ever made such a statement.
He gave Mr. Mohammed a seven-day ultimatum to retract the comments on his mental status and tender an apology.
He also claimed N5billion damages against Mr. Mohammed, warning that should the letter be treated with levity it would “amount to a spacious gamble.”
The letter titled, Re: Femi Fani-Kayode: We’re Concerned About Fani Kayode’s Mental Status, read in part: “Our client denies in its entirety the contents of the above publication and innuendoes therein, and further states that every allegation against him in the said publication is false and defamatory of his person and character.
“Consequently, we demand that you withdraw the said statement and render an apology to our Client within Seven (7) days of the receipt of this letter. You are also to enter into negotiation for damages as we have firm instructions to claim Five Billion Naira damages against you.”
