Oyo INEC Begins Second Permanent Voters Card Distribution Friday

The second phase of the distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) exercise in Oyo State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) comes up this weekend, Friday to Sunday (Oct.24 to 26,2014), the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Nasir Ayilara, has said.

He made this known at the Stakeholders meeting held in the Conference Room of the commission in Ibadan, where he also announced that Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) at the affected Registration Areas (Wards) would take place from Oct.29 to Nov.3 this year.
The exercises, according to him will be holding daily between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm on the scheduled days in the local government areas largely affected including Egbeda, Ibadan North- East, Ibadan South-East, Ibadan-South-West, Ibadan North, Lagelu and Ogbomoso South.
Ayilara said that the affected local government Electoral Officers had been directed to call stakeholders’ meeting in their areas with a view to providing more details on the Registration Areas and Polling Units.
Meanwhile, the REC announced that the INEC Headquarters, Abuja had only made available 1,630, 332 PVC out of the expected 2,002,866 cards, leaving a balance of 372, 534 cards to be brought later.
He said the shortfall in cards were spread over 669 polling units and 63 wards in the state, involving 19 local government areas and called on the electorate to ensure that they secure their voters’ cards, stressing that anybody found involved in double registration would have his or her voter’s card nullified.
It would be recalled that the commission had distributed the first round of PVC at the polling units level between 15th and 17th August this year
