Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a two-man robbery gang, who attacked a section of the state capital, Ado Ekiti on Christmas eve.The command said the arrest was made possible because of the watertight security put in place to ensure a crime-free situation at yuletide.
Addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, said the suspects, Popoola, 19 and Segun, 20, had besieged Olaoluwa, GRA area along Ado-Ilawe road and broke into houses, where they carted away valuable materials.
Lakanu, who spoke through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Babayemi, said the command was alerted by a resident of the area at about 10.10 pm, following which he drafted the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad to the scene to put the situation under control.
The commissioner said the suspects, who were now cooling their feet in detention attacked the victims with cutlasses, bottles and other dangerous weapons.
