Youth demography and test of leadership
Taiwo Odukoya
On April 18, 2015 a Mozambican, Emmanuel
Sithole, put a human face to the recent xenophobic attacks in South
Africa. Sithole was innocently walking along the road when he was
attacked, beaten and stabbed to half an inch of his life. He died hours
later in a hospital. Hours after his death, pictures of the incident and
his story hit the internet, followed by the arrest of the suspects; all
of them aged 18-22. Underpinning the mindless attacks on black
immigrants in South Africa is a desperate youth crisis.

carefully, deliberate conscientiously, and adjudicate swiftly and justly

National Assembly: The new order that must set in
Japheth Omojuwa
The All Progressives Congress promised
Nigerians change; now the party has power, it must show us that change
in truth and in deed. One place where that change will be mostly needed
is the National Assembly. It is supposed to be a public National
Assembly but on matters of finances and spending, it is largely private.
From a budgetary allocation of just about N50bn during the Obasanjo
presidential years, the National Assembly now spends some N150bn per
year. Apart from this unjustified budget, no one knows exactly how this
money is spent.
Who will stop African deaths on European doorstep?
Uche Igwe
Frequent deaths of illegal travellers
along other dangerous routes including the Mediterranean Sea are
disturbing and horrifying. But they do not make much news to many. What
could make news is the heightened frequency of the deaths probably due
to more illegal travellers, some fleeing from deepening instability in
parts of North and West Africa.
