The Borno state commissioner of police, Mr . Clement Adoda
has cautioned all political parties and politicians against the use of
abusive language in their electioneering campaign ahead of 2015 general
elections.
The commissioner of police who gave the
warning in a meeting with leaders of political parties at the Conference
Hall of Borno state Police Headquarters Maiduguri said their
electioneering campaign should be issue based rather than attacking
personalities.
He said “the IGP directed us to tell you that you
should play the game according to the rule and not to engage in the use
of abusive language during your campaigns, as any party, or politician
found using foul language will be penalized”.
“Nigeria is still
nursing its nascent democracy and as the democracy is getting matured,
politicians and political parties are also expected to behave
maturely”, the police boss stated.
He said Borno state is already
bedeviled with Boko Haram insurgency and that politicians should not
compound the problem with political violence and thuggery.
Adoda
cautioned political parties to warn their youths and members against
thuggery and the use of foul languages, adding that police will not fold
its arms watch politicians violating the law.
He stated that any party or candidate who lost in election should accept it in good faith and try again in next
elections, and assured them of adequate security and provision of level playing ground to all political parties.
Responding
on behalf of the political parties, the chairman of Inter Party
Advisory Council in Borno, who is also the state chairman of Progressive
Peoples Alliance (PPA), Comrade Babagana K Musa assured the CP that
they will play the game according to the its rules.
